Uraloğlu warns citizens about winter tires: Make sure to use them

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu inspected the measures and work carried out at the Directorate of Maintenance and Operation in Gaziosmanpaşa, 1st Region of General Directorate of Highways in order to prevent citizens from experiencing transportation problems in winter conditions in Istanbul. Uraloğlu, who chatted with the employees and got information about the works, stated that the staff is ready with the necessary equipment to prevent citizens from being inconvenienced 24/7. Emphasizing that they are working primarily to prevent any disruption on the roads due to snow, Uraloğlu said: "We closely monitor the entire process as the General Directorate of Highways together with our vehicles, operators, and engineers-technicians who will manage this process. The region under the responsibility of the Gaziosmanpaşa Directorate of Maintenance and Operation is the busiest place in Istanbul, with an average of 200-240 thousand vehicles passing through here daily. We are working to prevent any disruptions here. We also closely monitor the areas outside the responsibility of the Gaziosmanpaşa Directorate of Maintenance and Operation. In addition, we monitor the whole of Turkey. We carry out snow and ice fighting with approximately 599 vehicles in Istanbul, stock enough salt, especially in critical road sections and bridges, and use the solution we use in these areas to both take preventive measures and carry out snow fighting activities during snowfall." Uraloğlu emphasized that the Ministry and General Directorate of Highways have taken necessary precautions, saying, "We expect our citizens to definitely use winter tires, closely follow traffic, and travel by obeying our warnings."
